Network for contemporary performing arts (IETM): plenaire meeting en geleide bezoeken
From 23 to 26 November 2017, the IETM Plenary meeting, on ‘art in the age of populism’ will take place in Brussels. This meeting will also be a perfect occasion to discover 2 Belgian cities in a different way: there will be a pre-meeting in Charleroi and three city walks in Brussels that will make you discover some hidden aspects of the city.
Programma
From 23 to 26 November 2017, the IETM Plenary meeting, on ‘art in the age of populism’ will take place in Brussels. This meeting will also be a perfect occasion to discover 2 Belgian cities in a different way: there will be a pre-meeting in Charleroi and three city walks in Brussels that will make you discover some hidden aspects of the city.
Brussels, the city of diversity and contrasts, will host a four-day reflection on how art can help to overcome the ‘us against them’ discourse, put together the pieces of fragmented societies and shape a truly different future. The meeting will consist of working sessions, networking activities, city tours and an artistic programme. Both members of IETM and non-member participants are welcome to attend.
IETM – International network for contemporary performing arts – is a network of over 500 performing-arts organisations and individual members working in the contemporary performing arts worldwide: theatre, dance, circus, interdisciplinary live art forms, and new media. Members include festivals, companies, producers, theatres, research and resource centres, universities and institutional bodies. IETM holds two plenary meetings a year in different European cities, and smaller meetings all over the world.
Plenary meeting programme
The programme of the plenary meeting consists of networking activities, working sessions, membership activities, an artistic programme, off meetings and other events.
Guided walks in Charleroi and Brussels
On the 22nd of November, you can choose to go to Charleroi, where Charleroi danse will make you discover this post-industrial city. You will get to know among others La Manufacture Urbaine, a platform for food culture, and Quai10, a centre dedicated to cinema and gaming. More info on the programme can be found here.

Guided Walk #1 – 24 November, 2017 – 10:00 to 13:00
Fais le trottoir offers alternative guided walks led by a local graffiti artist. Decrypt the tags, stencils, collages, stickers, and murals of Molenbeek whilst learning about the history and techniques of street art and tagging movements. Please note that this walk will be conducted in French only.

Guided Walk #2 – 24 November, 2017 – 14:00 to 17:00
Four refugee artists will accompany you to two artistic organisations that work with newcomers: pop-up cinema Cinemaximiliaan and art house Globe Aroma. On the way, they will share what art means for them in their country of origin and their new city.

Guided Walk #3 – 25 November, 2017 – 10:00 to 13:00
K.A.K. (Koekelbergse Alliantie van Knutselaars), a collective of 16 artists, creates theatrical happenings in empty buildings around Brussels. Hear some anecdotes and stories from the ‘professional idiots’ of the city, as they take you on a walk around the Market of the Abattoirs and the car dealers of the Heyvaert. After that, you will visit the Ultima Vez studio where you will get an exclusive insight into the working process of a weekly ‘Participatory Laboratory’ by Seppe Baeyens and his new performance INVITED. This walk is created in collaboration with Flanders Arts Institute / Kunstenpunt.
