New Flemish reporting centre for transgressive behaviour

Have you experienced harassment in a cultural organisation or in another Flemish institution? Or do you know someone who has experienced this? Are you looking for advice or guidance on the steps you can take? Report to the Flemish reporting centre for transgressive behaviour, and the staff will work together with you to determine how they can assist you.

Anyone active in the sports, higher education, culture, youth, and media sectors can report sexual harassment, discrimination, violence or bullying. The staff will listen to the needs of the reporter and provide support.

Responsibilities

The team – consisting of social workers, psychologists, a lawyer, and a coordinator – has two primary responsibilities:

  1. Receiving reports and following up on them appropriately, at the reporter’s pace and in accordance with their preferences. It is not a prerequisite for an individual or organization to be recognized or subsidized to make a report. A witness, relative, or third party can also report, and reports can be submitted anonymously.
  2. Mapping reports and providing advice on policies and sectors.

Services

The reporting centre is accessible to different types of reporters, offering a diverse range of services based on the approach developed by gender psychologists since 2019. Each reporter receives support to share their story and articulate their expectations. Based on this, potential follow-up steps are suggested. These can be tailored to specific sectors or include legal advice.

If a victim wishes, the reporting centre staff can organise and moderate reconciliation meetings with the perpetrator. Another option is a short-term therapeutic program for victims. If discrimination is involved, contact can be made with the Flemish Human Rights Institute.
