Read the report of Echo 2024, the Classical Music sector day
Together with Klarafestival, Concertgebouw Brugge and DE SINGEL, Flanders Arts Institute organises Echo, the annual sector day for Classical Music in Flanders.
Do you need prior knowledge to really appreciate classical music? Why is it that our canon is so white and male today? And an orchestra without a conductor, how does that work in concrete terms?
These are the questions we asked ourselves during the third edition of Echo, which focused on different perspectives on listening.
We organised six sessions in DE SINGEL, in Antwerp, where we explored what listening today means. In times where attention is scarce and the content keeps increasing, we highlight different perspectives on listening. From context programs to alternative places for presentation, and from radio to streaming. The day started with a State of the Youth by Brussels-based Kamancheh player Mostafa Taleb. The British journalist Kate Molleson concluded the sector day with her State of the Union.
