Echo 2024: classical music sector day
What does listening mean today? Echo 2024 places listening at the centre, in times when attention is increasingly scarce and the supply constantly increasing. The annual classical music sector day highlights various perspectives on listening.
Theme: unheard, perspectives on listening
How can we explore and present classical music in new ways, whether we are in a traditional concert hall, alternative venues, or at home? To what extent do contextual programs and introductions support understanding of the classical repertoire? What are the new forms of presentation? Are we still listening to the radio or are we solely streaming? How do classical festivals or concert halls engage with their audiences?
“If classical music is serious about wanting change, it needs to reclaim its innate and vital sense of adventure. I mean adventurous listening as well as adventurous creating. The kind of listening that makes us vulnerable, that reawakens us…”
Kate Molleson, Sound Within Sound – Opening Our Ears to The Twentieth Century

The State of the Youth keynote will be presented by Mostafa Taleb, a Brussels-based Kamancheh player and composer with Iranian roots, who merges Western and Persian classical music in his practice.
