Focus group visual arts on artists’ careers: Care & Wellbeing

20 Mar 2024
Public talk Flanders Arts Institute, Brussels
How do you ensure balance in your life so that you can continue to develop your artistic practice?

What does physical and mental wellbeing mean in a high-pressure environment? How do you ensure balance in your life so that you can continue to develop your artistic practice?

NICC and Flanders Arts Institute want to look at sustainable careers in the visual arts sector. In our preliminary discussions, we identified that wellbeing and care are essential, but often underexposed, elements in the sustainable development of careers in the arts.

We believe that by coming together and sharing experiences, we can create a platform for open dialogue and support. Therefore, we invite 10 artists to participate in our focus group.

Focus group

We will start with a small focus group (10 participants) that will prepare the plenary session on May 2, by exploring concepts such as ‘care’ and ‘well-being’ in a career in visual art. The focus group will also list possible formats for the track, e.g. workshops, presentations, panel discussions.

The ten participants preparing for the focus group with us are:

Laura Basterra Sanz, Erien Withouck, Margo Veeckman, Kurt Vanbelleghem, Tine Deboelpaep, Nabil Aniss, Samuel Vanderveken, Lili Vanderstraeten, Sarah Deboosere, Maryam Kamal Hedayat
