Take part in a curatorial training programme for individuals from lower socio-economic backgrounds
New Curators is a paid twelve-month curatorial training programme based in London for individuals from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
Why?
We know that training to become a curator is expensive and entering the profession can be difficult. Little wonder our industry is often seen as elitist and characterised by a lack of diversity. We want to help make the art world more accessible and equitable because we believe this will make it richer and more relevant.
By offering an intensive twelve-month curatorial training and London living wage to 12 people from lower socio-economic backgrounds globally we will help diversify the curatorial profession.
What?
Our course is designed to equip participants with the knowledge, practical skills, networks and confidence needed to thrive in the curatorial profession.
The programme is divided into five strands:
- Academic seminars: in curatorial theory and practice and art history
- Skills training: covering essential topics such as writing for different audiences, public speaking, budgeting and fundraising
- Network development: meetings with a wide range of curators, artists and arts professions and regular studio, gallery and museum visits in the UK and internationally
- Exhibition-making: extensive practical experience working collaboratively on exhibitions, publications and public programmes
- Coaching and mentorship: participants will be mentored and have access to regular individual and group coaching sessions
