Residency on a boat to create an intervention on a canal site
NART announces an open call for two unique art residencies as part of the Narva Venice Embassy project with a 2000€ budget for producing an artistic intervention on the site. The deadline for applying is May 31.
What?
NART hosts a rather bold experiment in the summer of 2022 – it opens an embassy in the famous Narva Venice and will have two “diplomatic” places for artists. The two artists will be living at the boat garage next to the canals. The residencies have financial support in producing an artistic intervention on the site.
Two residents will be able to spend the summer in a unique Narva commune – Kulgu, which is also called Narva Venice. This channel-riddled area is known as a very busy summer spot. The locals are spending time fishing, working in their gardens and enjoying the hot Estonian summer.
The aim is to do something good for the community, to make Kulgu more noticeable and attractive, and to get to know the locals and develop good relationships with them. But most importantly, the aim is to give a chance to two creatives to be inspired by this special place so that they could create artistic interventions that change things for the better.
Accommodation: Artists-in-residence will live in a garage which NART will prepare in advance for comfortable living. It will be quite modest, but there will be a place to cook, sleep, work, and enjoy life on the waterfront. There will be an outside toilet nearby. A kilometre and a half away, at the Narva Art Residency, it will be possible to take a shower and wash things.
Project: The artist is expected to develop an artistic intervention, installation, event, exhibition, or another project during the residency. The intervention should be created especially for Narva Venice.
Duration: The minimum length of the residency is three weeks, but please specify your preference in the application.
Support: The application should include an accurate plan for the implementation of the work and a detailed budget. both selected artists will have a grant of 600€ as well as a budget of 2000€ for executing their artistic interventions.
