Dingen die niet verkopen

‘Dingen die niet verkopen’ invites artists for a group exhibition that takes place from December 5th until December 22nd 2024. We are looking for art and design objects that contain political statements or narrate an activist/political story.

‘Dingen die niet verkopen’ is the artists’ initiative of Alec De Bruyn, Amber De Saeger and Lodewijk Heylen. In our space, we organize new exhibitions and performance events each month, but also make room for spontaneous happenings and collaborations. Our space with great visibility is located in the center of Antwerp and is surrounded by shopping streets.

The past two years we have organized “Dingen die niet verkopen, verkopen u dingen”. During these group exhibitions we collected interpretations of utilitarian objects: artworks that reference an existing object, but do not have any use themselves. For this third edition, which takes place during worrisome times, we will work together with Disarming Design from Palestine.

Disarming Design from Palestine is a non-profit organization that invests in participative design and functions as a design label as well as a learning platform. Their mission is to distribute locally designed and manufactured products from Palestine – useful products that contain poetic as well as political statements. The objects of Disarming Design from Palestine will be the literal center piece of our exhibition, and will be complemented and put into dialogue with artworks from this open call.

Within our season’s theme of “Archives of the Invisible: untold stories, hidden traces” we search for objects that contain stories that would otherwise remain untold. Which narrative can a product reveal and in which way can an object activate these stories?

Specifics:

  • The artworks contain a political story or meaning, which means they are an artistic processing of a certain position within society, subtle or activist in nature.
  • You can hold the artworks in one hand and have a price of maximum €500.
  • Deadline: send us no more than three works of art before November 7th, 23h59, with a short explanation and links to relevant websites.
