Capacity building of young professionals in the early music field
REMArkable – REMA’s scheme to support the capacity building of young professionals in the early music field! For the second year, in order to enhance the professional integration of the next early music generation, young professionals can benefit from the support scheme offered by REMA to build their capacities and help them launch their activities on the international scene.
REMArkable will take place over three years, with each year dedicated to a specific branch of early music professionals. Year 2 (2023) will focus on artistic directors and administrators of ensembles.
What?
Young professionals in Early Music are facing new challenges, as they enter the sector looking for work opportunities, meeting potential business partners and developing their activity. The ever-shifting global context, shaped by a pandemic and an ongoing energy crisis, is impacting the way we work, interact with each other, enjoy or produce music. REMArkable addresses the urgent need to support the newest professionals in the sector, making them feel welcome and equip them with the right tools to navigate the field.
In order to enhance the professional integration of the next early music generation, REMA’s support scheme for young professionals (ensembles, programmers, researchers) helps them build their capacities and launch their activities on the international scene. The beneficiaries will understand better the general challenges of the sector and their own position in it, get an informed opinion on their role as artists or venues in society, their relation to audiences, and tackle social questions.
REMA, the European Early Music Network, is the only network active in the Early Music field at European level. It was created in 2000 in Ambronay, and has since grown to become a network of around 130 organisations in 22 European countries. The network is supported by the European Commission, in the frame of the Creative Europe programme and by the French Culture Ministry.
Its main objectives are:
- To promote a common and diverse musical and cultural heritage
- To advocate for and strengthen the sector
- To support the sector in its transition towards sustainability and engagement
How to apply?
Deadline 6 April 2023 – The results of the selection will be communicated by mid April 2023.
Participants must be available to be in Pavia, Italy, from 25 to 27 May 2023 for the first REMArkable session.
You will be asked to
- Set out your motivation: how would you benefit, personally and for your organization, from this scheme? How is your organisation fitting the criteria listed above for joining the scheme?
- Send a list of concerts your festival programmed in the past 3 years max.
- Add a brief presentation of your organisation and its strategic goals and activities.
The number of participants is limited (up to 12 participants). The selection should reflect a variety of areas of origin, repertoires and sizes of organisations. The selection will be made by the REMA Executive Board in April 2023.
While artistic excellence will be the main factor, other criteria such as geographical, repertoire diversity and the organisation’s development project will play an important role in their process. Only one participant from each organisation will be selected.
