Vroman Fellowship 2022: 6-month residency programme in the Jan van Eyck Academy

Open call
Vroman Foundation / Jan van Eyck Academie

What?

In collaboration with the Vroman Foundation, the Jan van Eyck Academie is offering a 6-month residency programme to an (inter)national artist, writer or a designer whose research falls within the intersection of art and science and who carries an inquisitive approach towards interdisciplinary thinking.

  • Residency period: 1 November 2022 – 30 April 2023
  • Application deadline: 1 May 2022, 23:59 CET

In the spirit of polymath Leo Vroman (1915 – 2014), this residency programme accommodates one Fellow with a chance to further develop their research and projects using all Jan van Eyck facilities at hand. The selected participant will also be able to network and collaborate with fellow participants as well as gather expertise from the academy’s guests, advisers, and staff members. The Fellow will also have access to their own studio, a production budget, a monthly stipend, and accommodation.

JAN VAN EYCK ACADEMIE

As a multi-disciplinary Post-Academy, the Jan van Eyck (Maastricht, NL) offers residencies to artists, designers—ranging from graphic, fashion, to food and social design—, writers, curators and architects from all over the world.

Every participant is provided with the time, space and expertise needed to develop their artistic practice in depth. The Jan van Eyck is a place for research and experimentation, as well as a place for (public) debate and cross fertilization. Self-development is tied in with collaboration and exchange.

The institute is committed to exploring the agency, roles, and civic significance of art, design and other creative practices in relation to climate change, environmental breakdown, and their manifold effects. This institutional focus aims at creating a common-ground that embraces a diversity of practices and allows for a multitude of voices.

THE VROMAN FOUNDATION

The Vroman Foundation manages a major part of the estate of Leo and Tineke Vroman. The Foundation brings the richly diverse oeuvre of Leo Vroman to public attention by means of exhibitions, lectures and theatrical productions. It also aims to stimulate the talent development of young artists and scientists who work in a spirit similar to that of Leo Vroman: curious, transgressing boundaries, investigative and original.
