State of play of research on works of art maintaining links with the living
Call for papers – Conference
The history of art over the last sixty years allows us to trace the development of artists’ sensitivity towards the living. From the beginnings of an ecological awareness perceptible in the Land art of the 1960s to the desire to reconnect all living species through the use of bio-materials in the 2020s, it contains works dealing with the link that human beings maintain with their natural environment and the other species (plant, animal, bacterial, etc.) that occupy it. However, writing this genealogy represents a vast project that still needs to be invested.
ISELP is seeking researchers active in Belgium or abroad who wish to contribute to a reflection on the multidisciplinary links that have united contemporary artistic culture and living things since 1960. Art historians, anthropologists, philosophers, agronomists, environmental managers, landscapers, artists, exhibition curators, etc. are invited to propose a communication summarizing a recent investigation on the subject with a view to a conference to be held on May 8 and 9, 2025.
More information about the call and ISELP can be found here.
